On the Sava River near Šabac members of the Pontoneer Battalion, River Flotilla, have gone through routine fitness training in overcoming water obstacles.

This training is part of a complex training process conducted in the unit throughout the year in order to sustain a high level of skills in serving personnel for providing operational support to combat forces conducting inland waterways operations.

The training activity, which lasted for several days, implied that the unit members of the amphibious specialty refine the tactics and procedures in overcoming a water obstacle on the established temporary crossing point. They practiced how to load safely and properly assets onto amphibious transporters, eliminate their breakdowns and failures and navigate in varied conditions, taking measures of camouflage and immediate protection of the unit.

Training also included evaluating the amphibious transporters’ crews according to the standards prescribed for overcoming efficiently a water obstacle. The achieved results have confirmed their excellent skills for performing intended tasks.

Conduct of such training, coupled with continued professional development in the River Flotilla pontoneer battalions, results in having highly proficient unit members, which is, in addition to materiel’s proper functioning, the most important prerequisite for conducting efficiently engineer river operations.
