Today, members of the pontoon units of the Serbian Armed Forces have dismantled the pontoon bridge which, during the summer season, connected the Zemun Quay and the Great War Island.

The crossing bridge, 334 meters long, with a total load capacity of 20 tons, through which citizens had unhindered access to the Lido Beach in Zemun, was established in late June this year. In order to ensure a complete safety for all users, a duty crew was deployed 24 hours a day and was responsible for the safety and maintenance of the bridge.

Today, the elements of the pontoon bridge have been disassembled in a complex and demanding operation into two ferries, with which the pontoneers will transport the camp and other equipment to their original location.

In cooperation with the Tourist Organization of the City Municipality of Zemun, members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been bridging the Danube from the Great War Island to the Zemun bank for years. In addition to the benefits for the citizens, the experience gained during the transportation of the structure by river, assembling and disassembling the bridge serve to improve the Serbian Armed Forces pontoon units’ skills needed to execute specific tasks.
