This summer, members of the Serbian Armed Forces engineer units, in cooperation with local government authorities, are engaged in several municipalities of the Republic of Serbia in carrying out works aimed at improving living and working conditions of citizens and protecting human lives and property.
In the municipality of Bela Palanka, the engineer units of the Third Army Brigade are doing the preventive cleaning of the Mokranska River bed from soil deposits, swollen vegetation and other deposited material in order to increase the permeability of the river bed for water, ice and sediment, and reduce the risk of flash floods.
Near the village of Igrište, in the municipality of Kuršumlija, an engineering working group from the Third Army Brigade is carrying out repairs to local roads, which are used not only by members of the Serbian Armed Forces, but also by local population.
At the same time, soldiers and officers of the pontoneer engineer units of the River Flotilla take care of the safety and maintenance of the pontoon bridge from the Zemun Quay to the Great War Island, which they used to bridge the Danube last week, thus making it easier for the citizens of Belgrade to get to the beach Lido.
The engagement in such projects is an opportunity for members of the Serbian Armed Forces engineer units to test their capabilities in practice and further improve their competence to operate modern engineering machines and equipment used for road construction, overcoming water and other obstacles, blockage and camouflage.
In this manner, the Serbian Armed Forces demonstrate that they are always at the service of citizens, not only when it comes to defending the country, and that they are ready and capable of engaging their capacities in a short period of time and providing assistance to the population when needed.
