In accordance with the order of Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces and President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, members of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard conducted a gun salute today to mark April 23 — the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces.
Ten volleys from six artillery pieces each were fired from the Sava Plateau of Kalemegdan, after raising the national flag, playing the anthem of the Republic of Serbia and reading the order for the gun salute.
Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić attended the gun salute.
Among the gathered citizens were also the winners of this year’s “Our Soldier, Our Hero” competition, whom Minister Gašić, after the firing, congratulated and handed over the coins of the Ministry of Defense.
The Serbian Armed Forces celebrate their day in memory of April 23, 1815, when the Second Serbian Uprising broke out, which laid the foundations for the creation of the modern Serbian state and its army.
