August 2nd—the Aviation Day of the Serbian Armed Forces—was solemnly marked at the Air Force and Air Defence Command and at military airfields. The date commemorates the 1893 decree which stipulated that an aviation balloon company should be incorporated into every division of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia.

To mark the occasion, Air Force and Air Defence Commander, Major General Brane Krnjajić, presented pilots with gold flight badges and flight instructor titles during a ceremony at the Air Force Club.

He has emphasized that the Aviation Day is being marked with an optimistic look into the future and highlighted the key achievements of the aviation branch.

“Over the past ten years, the branch has been equipped with various types of aircraft, helicopters, and remotely piloted aircraft. Numerous modern aviation ordnance and other pieces of equipment have been procured, significantly contributing to making our aviation a respectable force in this area,” General Krnjajić concluded.

On the occasion of the Aviation Day, awards were presented to the most distinguished individuals, and wreaths were laid at memorials in front of the Air Force and Air Defense Command and at military airfields—memorials that honor the heroes who laid down their lives defending the homeland against NATO aggression in 1999.

The ceremonies were attended by representatives of Serbian Armed Forces units, former commanders, and numerous guests.
