River Flotilla Day and River Units Day Marked

Today, a military ceremony has been held on the Danube and Quay of the Raid Victims in Novi Sad on the occasion of marking the SAF River Units Day and River Flotilla Day.

This holiday celebration was an opportunity to summarize the results of the past year, to show a ceremonial parade of vessels and present the best ship and best crew awards and recognitions to the most distinguished individuals in the River Flotilla. Looking back on the results, it was pointed out that significant progress had been made when it came to building operational capabilities, vessels had been modernized and divers’ units provided with modern equipment.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, Deputy Army Commander Major General Slađan Stamenković, representatives of SAF and MOI units, officials from the Provincial Government, local government bodies, religious communities and a number of citizens.

The River Units Day and the River Flotilla Day are celebrated on 06 August in memory of the day in 1915 when the first Serbian warship — armored boat “Jadar” was launched, marking the beginning of a rich history of the Serbian Combat River Flotilla.
