St. Sava Tournament in Martial Arts

Organized by the 72nd Special Operations Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces, the traditional St. Sava fighting tournament has been held at the “Rastko Nemanjić” Barracks in Pančevo today.
At this year’s tournament, members of the special units of the Serbian Armed Forces and cadets of the Military Academy took part in the competitive part, while athletes from the associations and federations of martial sports of Serbia took part in the exhibition part.
Competitors competed in judo, boxing and kick-boxing, showing a high level of skills, sportsmanship and fair play in the fighting area. The most successful were members of the Special Operations Battalion “Falcons”.
The official opening of the St. Sava fighting tournament was attended by the host - commander of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, Brigadier General Miroslav Talijan, and President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, Dejan Tomašević, representatives of martial arts associations, current and former members of the Serbian national team, and numerous guests.
Training in martial arts is an important component of combat and physical training in the Serbian Armed Forces, primarily in special, military police and reconnaissance units. It improves physical fitness and psychological resilience to deal successfully with situations awaiting potentially members of these formations due to the nature of the tasks they perform.
