Members of Pontoneer Units of the Serbian Armed Forces completed the installation of a pontoon bridge across the Danube River, from the Zemun quay to the Great War Island enabling the citizens of Belgrade to spend this summer as well on the Danube beach Lido.

The pontoon bridge is 332 metres long and it can be used by pedestrians and vehicles of capacity up to 20 tons. During the transport of the bridge elements from the organic garrison Šabac and its installation, the unit members practised the actions and procedures for the execution of assigned tasks of pontoneer units, which further enhances their capabilities.

Today, the bridge has been handed over for use to the tourist organisation of Zemun Municipality, and in order to ensure complete safety for all users, a crew on duty has been deployed to ensure the safety and maintenance of the pontoon bridge twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

To great satisfaction of citizens of Belgrade, members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been bridging the Danube for many years now from the Zemun bank to the Great War Island. This year as well, the pontoon bridge will be functional by the end of August, when it will be dismantled and transported to its organic garrison.
