At the Dog Training Center, “Knjaz Mihailo” Barracks, Niš, military working dogs (MWD) have had their retraining completed in order to perform guard duties, which means that this year’s training cycle for this purpose has been concluded.

During the training, which has been conducted at the specialized training ground for several weeks, guard dogs learnt practical actions as part of general training, how to overcome obstacles and secure facilities in the daytime and at night, keeping the focus on discipline-practice to ensure the handler’s efficient control of the dog while performing the task.

The retraining program at this centre is intended for MWD that have already been engaged in SAF guard services, in order to maintain a high level of their skills for performing the tasks of securing military facilities and property. While doing so, they show off their superior senses of sight and smell, and ability to defeat the enemy quickly without the use of lethal force.

The guard dogs’ retraining, which happens in cycles, is one of the multiple training activities conducted at the Dog Training Centre, which is intended not only for the training, medical care, breeding and reproduction of dogs, but also for professional development of the veterinary service.
