Day of 72 Special Operations Brigade

A military ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, celebrated on January 27 in memory of the unit’s first successfully completed combat mission, has been held at the “Rastko Nemanjić” Barracks in Pančevo today.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, members of the Collegium of the Chief of the General Staff, former commanders of the unit, family members of the fallen members of the brigade, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, local government bodies, Ministry of Internal Affairs, veterans’ associations and institutions the unit cooperates with.
As part of the holiday celebration, in front of the ceremonial parade of the brigade members and veterans, key achievements in building combat readiness in the year behind were highlighted, with a display of the unit’s capabilities and awards and recognitions presented to the most successful individuals. Wreaths and flowers were laid at the memorial to the fallen members of this elite Serbian Armed Forces unit.
Commander of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, Brigadier General Miroslav Talijan, PhD, has recalled the history of the brigade in his speech, stating that this unit has been proudly celebrating Sava’s Day for more than three decades and that, as a recipient of the Order of the War Flag, 1st Degree, it continues to justify the trust placed in it by the state and military leadership.
He has pointed out that the unit’s operational capabilities have been significantly improved in the recent period, especially since 2019, when the unit regained its former and well-deserved status of a brigade.
Earlier today, members of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade celebrated the St. Patron’s Day of the unit, Savindan or Day of St. Sava, who was the first Serbian archbishop.
