Friday, 9.12.2022 | Training
A tactical exercise entitled “Serbian Shield” was conducted this week at “South” Base and “Borovac” Training Ground, as part of preparations of the force protection platoon for deployment with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
At the exercise, in the conditions tailored to those in the Area of Operations, this unit, which reports to the Training Command, underwent evaluation of its competence for performing the tasks when deployed with UN peacekeeping forces.
During the exercise activities which lasted for many days, the platoon responded to diverse tactical scenarios, while the SAF General Staff Assessment Team evaluated the unit’s competence and interoperability. It monitored and assessed the procedures on the move, while undertaking air defence protective measures and working on a permanent check-point and observation post, and response in case of coming across mine-explosive ordnance or the base is attacked.
The results at the exercise indicate that the force protection platoon has lived up to the defined standards and is fully ready for deployment on peacekeeping operation.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been deploying the force protection platoon with UNIFIL since 2014. The primary task of this platoon, which is part of the Italian Contingent, is to secure the base where UN forces are located.
