Information Security Centre Established

In the presence of Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić and Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, the Serbian Armed Forces Information Security Centre has officially started working today.

Wishing the members of the newly formed unit a happy beginning of their work, Minister Gašić has emphasized the importance of establishing the Centre for strengthening operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces.

— By founding the Information Security Centre, we are strengthening further the capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces in the field considered one of the key national security pillars today. I am certain that members of this unit, with their knowledge, expertise and commitment, will make a significant contribution to protecting our country - said the Minister of Defense, stressing that the start of the Center’s work confirms the determination to improve continuously the defense system in accordance with modern security challenges.

Head of the Telecommunications and IT Directorate (J-6), General Staff, Major General Mile Vitezović, has pointed out that we live in the times when people and organizational systems are deeply affected by the rapid development of information and communication technologies, the functioning of the Ministry of Defense and Serbian Armed Forces becoming unimaginable without them.

— With the establishment of the Information Security Centre, we get a specialized unit that will be the first-line defense of information resources, an early warning system about the risks and threats to overall security. In addition, the Centre is the core of the future cyber operations offensive forces — General Vitezović said.

The head of the newly formed center is Colonel Zoran Perišić. He has pointed out that the Centre has modern software security tools for system monitoring and protection that enable reliability in the execution of tasks. On this occasion, he has emphasized that information security is based not only on technology but also on the employees’ knowledge, experience and ethical responsibility.

A film about this new SAF unit was also presented at the opening ceremony, attended by members of the collegiums of the Minister of Defense and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

The Information Security Centre is a unique specialized institution, directly subordinated to the Telecommunications and IT Directorate (J-6). It is intended to protect the information and communication systems and services in the Ministry of Defense and Serbian Armed Forces. Within its competence, it continuously monitors, analyzes and controls the state of information security of systems in operational use, while undertaking active and passive protection measures.
