Members of the pontoon units of the Serbian Armed Forces have completed installing a pontoon bridge over the Danube, from Zemun’s river bank to the Great war island, which will enable the citizens of Belgrade to spend this summer on the Danube beach Lido.

The pontoon bridge has a carrying capacity of 20 tons, a length of 355 meters and will be used both by pedestrians and vehicles with a total weight load of up to 20 tons. During transportation and installation of the elements of the river bridge, actions and procedures in performing specific tasks of pontoon units were rehearsed, which additionally improved their capabilities.

Today, the bridge was handed over to the Tourist organization of Zemun municipality, and during its exploitation, River Flotilla pontoonists, who established the bridge crossing point, will be in charge of its safety and maintenance.

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces, to the great satisfaction of the citizens of Belgrade, have been bridging the Danube from the Zemun’s bank  to the great War island for years and the pontoon bridge will be in operation until the end of August, when it will be disassembled and transported to the home garrison.
