At the “1st Infantry Regiment of Prince Miloš the Great” Barracks in Vranje, a military ceremony has been held today on the occasion of deployment of a new Serbian Armed Forces’ contingent to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
The contingent consists of an infantry company from the 4th Army Brigade, staff officers who will be engaged at the Mission HQ and a group of specialists in charge of supporting our formation.
As part of international forces, they will be performing responsible peacekeeping tasks in Sector East of the UN peacekeeping operation in this Middle Eastern country. They have previously undergone comprehensive preparations and several months of training, in order to be fully prepared to engage in a peacekeeping operation.
The ceremonial send-off was attended by representatives of the General Staff and Serbian Armed Forces’ units, local government bodies and Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as relatives and friends of the soldiers and officers being deployed to the mission.
Head of the IT and Telecommunications Directorate (J-6) of the General Staff Brigadier General Mile Vitezović presented the flag of the Republic of Serbia to Infantry Company Commander Major Nemanja Stamenković, and wished the Serbian Armed Forces’ members a successful implementation of the assigned tasks in the Area of Operation and a safe return to their homeland.
The Serbian Armed Forces’ participation in UNIFIL began in 2010, and in addition to the contingent in Sector East, an SAF platoon for the protection of peacekeeping forces in Sector West is currently deployed in this operation.
