International Day of UN Peacekeepers Marked

The ceremony of marking the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, 29 May, has been held today at the SAF Peacekeeping Operations Center, Belgrade, as a tribute paid by UN and member states to all participants in peacekeeping operations, especially those who lost their lives as peacekeepers.

This ceremony was attended by Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, with his staff members, spouse and children of Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Stanojević — officer of the Serbian Armed Forces who was killed in the MONUSCO mission, representatives from organizational units of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces and other guests.  

In his address, General Mojsilović congratulated all SAF members who participated, or are currently participating, in UN peacekeeping operations on this holiday praising their professional and competent engagement which made them respectable in international environment adding that they represented the Republic of Serbia and its Armed Forces in a dignified manner.

Regarding the activities within the second mission of the Serbian Armed Forces, Chief of the General Staff has pointed out that SAF are continually improving their capabilities for participation in UN and EU peacekeeping operations and are analyzing in detail their potential future deployments on missions worldwide, so as to be ready for any task assigned by the state leadership. 

As part of the ceremony, General Mojsilović and spouse of the killed Lieutenant Colonel Stanojević uncovered the Memorial Wall at the Peacekeeping Operations Center with a photograph of this SAF officer who lost his life on 29 March while performing a regular task of air reconnaissance in the MONUSCO mission.
