Memorial medals awarded in Kraljevo

Serbian Army Chief of Staff Gen. Miloje Miletic presented today in Kraljevo barracks "Ribnica" military commemorative medals to fifteen members of the 2nd Army Brigade, 98th and 204 Aviation Brigade, assigned to them by the Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac for saving the property of the Republic of Serbia and the sacrifice manifested in firefighting in the vicinity of Kraljevo.

Serbian Army Chief of Staff Gen. Miloje Miletic presented today in Kraljevo barracks "Ribnica" military commemorative medals to fifteen members of the 2nd Army Brigade, 98th and 204 Aviation Brigade, assigned to them by the Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac for saving the property of the Republic of Serbia and the sacrifice manifested in firefighting in the vicinity of Kraljevo.

Congratulating the awarded officers, General Miletic said that he was particularly pleased that today, fifteen members of these units had received military merit medals.
He stressed that the Serbian Army enjoys great trust of the citizens of Serbia and that it's not just a traditional relations of our people toward the military, but also the result of dedicated work of the Serbian Armed Forces, their professionalism and genuine commitment to what they do, all for the benefit of Serbia.

- The citizens know that the Serbian Army is always with them, ready to help them, in accordance with their missions. During this year, soldiers and officers of the Serbian Army helped the inhabitants of southern and western Serbia, when the floods hit this area. Thanks to the Army, a total length of 390 meters in bridges helped to connect the banks Resava, Lim, Juzna Morava and the Danube to Lido. When it was necessary we supplied water to the residents of municipalities of Novi Pazar, Sjenica, Svrljig, Aleksinac, Targoviste, Doljevac, Lebane, as General Miletic said.

According to him, members of the SAF in Kraljevo have been engaged since the first day on helping fellow citizens in the rehabilitation of the earthquake consequences.

- So far have we have spent 25,000 hours and 1850 motor-hours, destroyed 178 rundown and unsafe buildings, transported 20,000 m³ of rubble and covered 30,000 kilometers, as General Miletic reminded the guests, adding that the Army was ready to perform all the tasks posed before them.

- These brave men, true professionals carry their tasks in the best possible way.

Military commemorative medals were awarded to Colonel Sasa Nikitovic, Major Zoran Kostovski, Denis Basic and Vladimir Grbovic, sergeants Miloje Velimirovic, Zoran Grujic, Ivan Miladinovic and Miloje Susic, sergeants first class Predrag Milanovic, Zoran Markovic Cogoljevi? and Oliver and professional soldiers Dejan Bozanic, Bojan Dugalic, Alexander Vuckovic, Ivan Jovanovic.

On behalf of the recipients of military commemorative medals, Colonel Sasa Nikitovic thanked the crowd.

Responding to questions from reporters after the ceremony, General Miletic said that over the past two years much has been done to improve the capacity for emergency response by training and modernization of the system in that area.

- Our greatest achievement is that we managed to jumpstart a sort of an inert system so of decision-making system and increase the responsibility of commanders who now have the ability to respond immediately. Another significant progress has been made in the field of cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, particularly the Department for Emergency Situations. We have established an exemplary cooperation and we will continue to work on it, said General Miletic.

Speaking of people who were given commemorative medals General Miletic said:

"People have from the first moment responded with great courage, self-sacrifice and initiative.Even if we had awarded these medals to all other members in this area, we would not have made a mistake. "

When asked about the statement that the Army is ready to protect the people in Kosovo and Metohija the chief of general staff said:

"I said that the Serbian Army performs all tasks in accordance with the decisions of regulatory authorities. The deployment of the Army is the prerogative of the President of the Republic or the National Assembly in certain situations. The army has the capacity to carry out its tasks, but I hope that politics will find a way to protect the interests of the Serbian people without using force. "
