After six months spent in MONUC mission in Congo under the auspices of the United Nations, the six-member team aerial medical evacuation team (AMET) returned to Serbia.

After six months spent in MONUC mission in Congo under the auspices of the United Nations, the six-member team aerial medical evacuation team (AMET) returned to Serbia.

The members of the team, major Milibor Kostic, MD and Gordana Bejatovic as well as medical technicians Senior I Class Sergeant Aleksandar Pavicevic, senior sergeant Milan Markovic, Jenea Djordjevic and Nada Kocic were in a mission in the period 4 February-25 august 2009.

United Nation’s mission in Congo (MONUC) was established in November 1999 in accordance with the UN Charter and based upon the Resolution 1279 of UN Security Council. This is a peace mission where the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces participate with one unit alone, which constitutes two aerial medical evacuation teams.

Since March 7 2009, when the first medical teams was sent to Congo, medical teams are deployed in the mission on a six-month mandate. During their mandate, AMET-12 was deployed on numerous aerial evacuation tasks, motor vehicle evacuation tasks from the airport to the hospital in Kinshasa and also was deployed as security forces which safeguarded those officials who visited UN forces.
