Excellent Proficiency of Tank Crews in Combat Use of T-72 MS Tank

Members of a T-72M tank battalion conducted a live-fire tactical exercise at the “Pasuljanske Livade” training ground, aimed at further enhancing the unit’s proficiency in executing combat operations within the Serbian Armed Forces.
The exercise—the culmination of this training cycle—was preceded by numerous preparatory activities, encompassing a diverse range of fire and tactical training, as well as the execution of preparatory, instructional, and crew-level live-fire drills.
In accordance with the scenario, tank units executed complex offensive combat tasks. The focus was on coordination in carrying out tactical maneuvers and delivering fire against targets at various ranges, using the unit’s primary combat asset—the T-72 MS tank.
According to Tank Platoon Commander Captain Stefan Pešić, the period of intensive training undergone by the unit consisted of several phases, each aimed at enhancing the proficiency of individual tank crew members—specifically gunners and drivers.
“The exercise was conducted according to a scenario in which a tank company carried out a march from an assembly area. The tank platoons were tasked with spotting the enemy along the main axis of attack and engaging targets using their tank guns, coaxial 7.62 mm machine guns, and remotely operated weapon stations equipped with 12.7 mm machine guns,” said Captain Pešić.
On this occasion, he invited young people interested in serving in tank units to apply for the current recruitment call for tank gunner and driver positions within the Army—an application process that remains open until October 31.
The exercise at the “Pasuljanske Livade” training ground was observed by Army Commander, Major General Zoran Nasković. He confirmed that the tank crews had fully grasped their combat mission and assigned tasks, and he assessed the overall training activities of the T-72M tank battalion as successful.
Continuous training in tank battalions ensures that all crews meet the required proficiency standards, thereby maintaining a high level of combat readiness for these units—which, thanks to their high mobility, firepower, and armored protection, serve as the primary maneuver force for the Serbian Army in the conduct of operations.
