Exercise of Army Units Utilizing Simulations

This week, a command-post exercise is being conducted at the Serbian Armed Forces’ Simulation Training Center in Belgrade, during which units from the Army are practicing the execution of military operations within a simulated environment.

The exercise is two-sided: a brigade command organizes and executes an offensive operation, while a battalion command acts as the opposing force, tasked with conducting a defense within an assigned sector of the area of operation.

In accordance with the established scenario, unit commanders, as well as staff officers and NCOs, are practicing procedures within the military decision-making process based on various tactical scenarios; they are also coordinating the employment of forces, modern combat assets, and systems for surveillance, reconnaissance, and countering remotely piloted and unmanned aircraft.

The exercise also evaluates the understanding of the principles governing the employment of forces in operations, interoperability and cooperation with units of the Ministry of the Interior, as well as collaboration with actors in the civilian environment.

The objective is to enhance the capability of the exercising units’ commands to plan, organize, and conduct combat operations within a complex operational environment and under conditions of high-intensity combat.

Computer assisted simulation exercises represent an important form of practical command training within the Serbian Armed Forces, as they provide staff officers and commands with the opportunity to develop their skills in planning and conducting combat operations while requiring minimal expenditure of material resources.
