Full autonomy of the Serbian military hospital in Africa even during pandemic

The Serbian military hospital Role 2+ in the United Nations mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) is completely autonomous and self-sustaining even in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which means that all equipment and medical staff in the hospital are provided by the Republic of Serbia.

Due to a complex political and epidemiological situation in that African country, air traffic was suspended, which greatly hindered the supply of the hospital with medical materials and the planned installation of medical and logistical equipment.

Thus, the military hospital relied only on a portable X-ray machine, which had performed more than 2,500 images for the needs of surgical, internal medicine, orthopedic and dental interventions for 11 months of intensive use, after which it stopped working.

In order to continue with the uninterrupted provision of health care, members of the Serbian Armed Forces first serviced the portable X-ray machine on their own, and then successfully installed a stationary X-ray machine. Confirmation that they performed a good job came from a company from the Republic of Serbia authorized for installation, whose representatives were not able to travel to the Central African Republic.

The Serbian military hospital in the MINUSCA mission provides first and second level of health care, emergency resuscitation/stabilization, emergency surgical interventions, basic dental care and evacuation of the injured to the next level of medical care.
