French Chief of Defence Staff, General François Lecointre, is on an official visit to the Republic of Serbia at the invitation of the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.
The aim of the visit is to discuss the current political and security situation in the region, exchange experiences in engaging the armed forces in the fight against Covid-19 infectious disease and consider opportunities for further improvement of cooperation between the Serbian and the French military.
During the one-day visit, General Lecointre had separate meetings with the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces and the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, PhD Nebojša Stefanović and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.
During the meeting of the two generals, they talked about the current security situation in the region and the possibilities for improving bilateral military cooperation. It was assessed that the most concrete results, when it comes to military-military cooperation, could be achieved through joint deployment in a multinational environment and joint activities in the field of training and exercises. Special attention was paid to considering the possibility of potential inclusion of the Serbian Armed Forces capacity in the "Takuba" task forces, which, led by France, provide assistance to the Armed Forces of Mali in the fight against terrorism.
