General Diković Visits Our Peacekeepers in the CAR

Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Ljubiša Diković, is on a many-day visit to the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces engaged in missions in the Central African Republic.

Serbian peacekeepers are engaged in the United Nations peacekeeping operation (MINUSCA) and the EU Training Mission for security forces (EUTM RCA) in that country.

After the ceremonial welcome, which was organized the night before in the Serbian Morava base in Bangui, the Chief of General Staff General Ljubiša Diković visited our military hospital role 2 yesterday where he was briefed about to the tasks, duties and responsibilities of the hospital during the mission by heads of divisions of the military hospital. General Diković attended the exercises of the medical team for evacuation by air, during which the practical work of this team, as well as the procedures that are conducted daily in a military hospital, were presented.

In continuation of the visit, the Chief of General Staff has met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the DR Congo, Radomir Živković, with whom he discussed the engagement of the Serbian Armed Forces contingents in the UN and the EU multinational operations in the Central African Republic and the UN operation in DR Congo (MONUSCO), as well as possible support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia to our contingents in these operations

In the continuation of the visit, our delegation will visit the EUTM RCA HQ in the UCATEX base in Bangui, as well as the UN Mission (MINUSCA) Logistics Base. During his stay in the Central African Republic, the Chief of General Staff will also meet with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in that country, the Director of Support to the MINUSCA Mission, the EUTM RCA commander and the commander of the military forces of the MINUSCA mission.

The Serbian Armed Forces began its engagement in the MINUSCA mission on 20th September 2014, and currently in the Central African Republic there are an officer appointed as Deputy Commander of the Sector West, two officers on staff duties, two officers on military observer duties and 70 members of the military hospital role 2. Engagement in this mission is our biggest engagement after the UN mission in Lebanon.

The European Union Training Mission for the security forces of the Central African Republic has been established in accordance with the Council of the European Union Decision and represents a continuation of the EU engagement in the Central African Republic after the end of the mandate of the EU Military Advisory Mission (EUMAM RCA) in this country. The mandate of the mission is to support the authorities of the Central African Republic in the security sector reform, in three areas: counseling, education and training. After engaging in two EU missions in the Central African Republic (EUFOR RCA and EUMAM RCA), the Serbian Armed Forces continued its engagement in the EUTM RCA, with the deployment of a medical team consisting of a doctor and five medical technicians in December last year, and since April this year, an officer was deployed to perform a duty of a medical advisor to the mission commander.
