Minister of Defence visits General Staff

Mr Bratislav Gasic, Minister of Defence in the new Government, have visited Serbian Armed Forces General Staff this morning for the first time. In front of the Honour Guard, Minister Gasic was welcomed by General Ljubisa Dikovic, Chief of General Staff, with members of the Collegium.

In front of the Honour Guard, Minister Gasic was welcomed by General Ljubisa Dikovic, Chief of General Staff, with members of the Collegium. The first man of the General Staff informed the new Minister of Defence about the organization, functions, tasks, employment and the current situation in the Serbian Armed Forces, wishing him success in his work at this responsible duty.

After the meeting of the Collegium, Minister Gasic stated that the General Staff was a model institution for many others in the country.

- All the things to which I was introduced by the Chief of General Staff is just a confirmation of what I am saying from the first day – that the Serbian Armed Forces is one of the best organised systems of our country – Minister of Defence said. He underlined that in the forthcoming period modernization of the armed forces should be continued and the situation in it should be maintained and enhanced in all areas of life.

Minister Gasic inspected the Centre for Peacekeeping Operations and the Operations Centre of the defence system where he personally received reports from the operations centres of the Army and Air Force and Air Defence through video link.

Major Srdjan Radivojevic, Commander of Infantry Company which is currently engaged in the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon under the flag of the United Nations, has also submitted report to the Minister of Defence.
