General Dikovic visits the members of SAF in Lebanon

SerSerbian Armed Forces Chief General Ljubisa Diković and Commander of the multinational United Nations operation in the Republic of Lebanon (UNIFIL) Major General Paolo Serra discussed today the current political and security situation in Lebanon, the military and security situation in the area of operation, directions development of UNIFIL and the participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in this operation.
Serbian Armed Forces Chief General Ljubisa Diković and Commander of the multinational United Nations operation in the Republic of Lebanon (UNIFIL) Major General Paolo Serra discussed today the current political and security situation in Lebanon, the military and security situation in the area of operation, directions development of UNIFIL and the participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in this operation.
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces who are in Lebanon are deployed on tasks in the East sector. The commander of the sector, Brigadier General Francisco Dakoba Servino talked with General Diković about the political and security situation and previous engagements of the Serbian Armed Forces in UNIFIL. The two generals exchanged views on military cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Spain, with an emphasis on joint participation in multinational operations.
Furthermore, General Diković also met with the Deputy Head of Mission and Head of the Department of Political and UNIFIL Civil Affairs Milos Strugar.
During his stay in Lebanon, the Chief of General Staff surveyed the area of operations of UNIFIL and visited some of the positions of the United Nations for the "Blue Line" and the buildings in which members of SAF live and work. In an interview with Serbian peacekeepers in Lebanon, General Diković expressed satisfaction with the work of the officers and soldiers of the Serbian Armed Forces in the operation and reminded them that they represent the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Armed Forces in the eyes of the people of Lebanon and other armies. Diković will tomorrow visit the area of responsibility of the Spanish battalion, comprising an infantry company of the Serbian Armed Forces.
United Nations Peace Operations in the Republic of Lebanon — UNIFIL was established by resolutions of the Security Council of the United Nations No. 425 and 426 of in 1978. and No. 1701 in 2006. Members of the Serbian Armed Forces began their participation in UNIFIL in Lebanon in December 2010, in the Spanish contingent, with five staff officers in command of Sector East and one staff officer at the headquarters of the Spanish battalion. By the end of 2012 another 36 members of the platoon and five members of the national support element were deployed, and in March 2013 two officers were deployed on Command and Staff Duties. In November 2013 an infantry company was sent to UNIFIL.
