Visit of the Italian Chief of Defence

Italian Chief of Defense, General Enzo Vecciarelli, is in official visit to the Republic of Serbia, at the invitation of the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.   

The aim of the visit is to discuss the current political and security situation in the region, exchange experiences from the engagement of the armed forces in combating Covid-19 pandemic and consider opportunities for further improvement of cooperation between the Serbian and the Italian Armed Forces.

During the meeting with the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, the current security situation in the region and bilateral military cooperation were discussed, with an emphasis on joint deployment in the UN peacekeeping operation in Lebanon and joint training and exercise activities. Special attention was given to the impact of KFOR on the security of the Western Balkans and the importance of the Italian contingent within KFOR for the preservation of peace and security in Kosovo and Metohija and the protection of the Serbian national, cultural, historical and religious heritage.

It was assessed that the bilateral military cooperation was intensive and meaningful and that it was characterized by constant quantitative and qualitative improvement. It was pointed out that joint activities gave a special quality to cooperation, because they contributed to the development of trust and the improvement of overall relations and affected the raising of the level of interoperability and operational capabilities of both parties.

During his stay in the Republic of Serbia, General Vecciarelli was received by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, PhD Nebojša Stefanović.
