In the Self-Propelled Howitzer Artillery Battalion, 4th Army Brigade, service personnel are undergoing intense training in using the self-propelled howitzers 2S1 “Gvozdika” 122mm in combat.

The crews of these artillery systems are using the training and exercise areas in the vicinity of Vranje to build their skills needed to execute collective assignments and provide fire support to Army evolution units.

At this point, the soldiers and officers are refining on-the-move tactics, gun emplacement and procedures in preparation for and delivery of indirect artillery fire and other actions needed to deliver sudden, efficient and concentrated artillery fire against the targets at varied distances.

This training cycle will conclude with a tactical live-fire exercise which will test practically the competence of howitzer crews for performing intended tasks in the winter conditions when it is difficult to perform reconnaissance, choose and camouflage the fire position and do the firing data calculation due to the snow and wet terrain.

The self-propelled howitzers 2S1 “Gvozdika” 122mm is intended for destruction and neutralization of adversarial manpower and artillery weapons, demolition of strong points, wire and other obstacles, creation of passages through minefields and obstacles, as well as illumination of the battlefield and creation of smokescreens.
