Gun Salute to Mark the Day of Victory

Celebration of 9th May – Day of Victory over fascism in the Second World War was initiated today with honorary artillery volleys fired from the Sava Terrace in Kalemegdan.

By the order of the President of the Republic of Serbia and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić, members of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces carried out the honorary artillery fire with ten volleys, fired from sixs artillery weapons, in the presence of Commander of the Guard of Serbian Armed Forces Major General Milomir Todorović and numerous citizens.

Apart from this, already traditional event, in which participated the Ceremonial Band of the Guard playing the national anthem and marches, the Day of Victory is going to be marked by other cultural events as well, numerous concerts, film presentations and the fourth ceremonial march of the “Immortal Regiment” which will start on 9th May at 17 o’clock in front of the Memorial park dedicated to the liberators of Belgrade and pass through the streets Ruzveltova and Boulevard of the King Aleksandar to the Assembly of the City of Belgrade.
 
The central event of marking the Day of Victory is demonstration of capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia “DEFENCE OF FREEDOM”, which is upon decision of the President of the Republic of Serbia going to be held on 10th May in Niš (Nikola Tesla Boulevard) starting at 11 o’clock.
 
The programme for the demonstration includes ceremonial march-past of an infantry echelon, march-past of a motorised echelon, and flypast of an air force echelon and parachute jumps.
 
More than 4000 members of the Serbian Armed Forces and MI are planned to participate, around 300 combat and non-combat vehicles and systems and some 40 aircraft.
