Several weeks of training of dog handlers and service dogs for engagement in the guard service are in progress in the Dog Training Centre in the barracks "Knjaz Mihailo" in Niš.

Professional soldiers who are trained for the duty of service dog handlers of the guard service are undergoing training, while dogs bred in the Centre are trained to guard military facilities, and will be deployed to Serbian Armed Forces units together with the dog handlers upon completion of the training.

Dog handler training consists of theoretical and practical work, and the focus is on actions during the capture, detention and neutralization of persons in performing illegal activities, as well as overcoming the specific obstacles that dog handlers and dogs encounter during the execution of tasks.

Such training is conducted in the Centre throughout the year, and the successful training of dog handlers and service dogs significantly contributes to the protection and security of facilities and movable assets of the Serbian Armed Forces, bearing in mind the superior sense of sight and smell of dogs and their ability to overcome the enemy quickly and without the use of deadly force.
