I would like to congratulate all the members of Air Force and Air Defence on 24 December – the Arm’s Day.
For more than one century, 24 December has been a day with special meaning. That day represents the beginning of the history of our county’s Air Force, the day when the arm of the Serbian Armed Forces was established, the one with elite military members who have chosen one of the most dangerous vocations ever.
Cherishing the decades-long traditions, as guardians of the blue sky above this sacred part of the hilly Balkans throughout turbulent Serbian history, members of the Air Force and Air Defence units were the ones to write the pages of our national history.
They set the example for others, showing them how to love the flag and the fatherland and even die for it, if need be, for the sake of providing security to their country and peace and safety to their people.
Serbia is pursuing the policy of peace, stability and good diplomatic relations. However, every strong state must have strong and capable armed forces whose members are professional and trained to perform their tasks at any time in order to fulfill their primary duty, that is, to defend the country they pledged to protect. For that reason, we have recently started with considerable investments that have been implemented successfully, contributing thus to strengthening the operational capabilities of Air Force and providing the units with the possibility to operate effectively in all segments of their responsibilities.
Thanks to the competence of personnel at our disposal, and striving for continuous advancement, I am certain that the engagement so far in reinforcing and equipping the units is only one step towards further progress of the Air Force and Air Defence units and Serbian Armed Forces on the whole, which, with the support of the state, will not and must not stop.
I congratulate you on your holiday, hoping that you will be protecting successfully your state, people and our blue sky with your competence, bravery and honor, as you have done so far.
