Military Bishop’s Duty Handover

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff General Milan Mojsilović have attended today’s ceremony of military bishop’s duty handover at the Diocese of Niš between Bishop Arsenije of Niš and Bishop Dositej of Lipljan, Vicar of Serbian Patriarch Porfirije.

Bishop Dositej was ordained at St. Sava Church on 11 December 2022, following a regular meeting of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church at which he was appointed Vicar Bishop of the Serbian Patriarch, holding the title of Bishop of Lipljan, and, having in mind his officer’s career, Bishop of the Military.

Today’s duty handover ceremony was preceded by the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy and Prayer Service of Thanksgiving at the Holy Trinity Church in Niš, co-officiated by SAF military chaplains alongside bishops Arsenije and Dositej.

Minister Vučević and General Mojsilović congratulated the newly appointed Bishop of the Military Dositej on his new duty, underscoring its significance, as well as the importance of the Chaplaincy Service for our Serbian Armed Forces members.

As a sign of gratitude for the cooperation maintained so far and support given to the Chaplaincy Service in the Serbian Armed Forces, Bishop Arsenije has awarded the Ministry of Defence with the highest decoration of the Diocese of Niš, Medal of the Holy Roman of Đunis, 1st degree, and handed it to Minister Vučević at today’s ceremony. Bishop Arsenije has also awarded Chief of the General Staff General Mojsilović with the highest decoration of the Diocese of Niš.

Minister Vučević handed the Plaque of the Ministry of Defence to Bishop Arsenije, thanking on behalf of the Ministry for all he has done not only for the military, Church and Fatherland Serbia, but also for the entire Serbian people during the four years of honorable and honest service as Bishop of the Military.

General Mojsilović handed the officer’s sabre to Bishop Arsenije, expressing his gratitude on behalf of the Serbian Armed Forces members and personally for an exceptional cooperation which strengthened the relations between the Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbian Armed Forces and encouraged growth of the moral strength of their members.
