SAF Sports championship opens

Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic opened today the 6th Sports Championship of the Serbian Armed Forces at Duke Zivojin Misic barracks in Valjevo.

General Dikovic said that physical training and sports are important factors in the defence system, which are included in all elements of operative and functional capabilities.

-    We are aware that, with the development and popularization of sports, we strengthen capabilities of our formations for completion of assigned tasks – Chief of General Staff said, telling the participants that this was an ideal opportunity for them to test their physical preparedness, will power, individual values, collective spirit and togetherness that had always been present in the SAF team.

General Dikovic wished for the championship to be a manifestation of chivalry, friendship, sports and military skills and virtues.

On behalf of this year’s organizer of the championship, the Training Command, the competitors were addressed by Lieutenant General Djokica Petrovic, who said that sports were chivalrous competitions with the respect for the rules of the game.

At the beginning of today’s sports manifestation, the state flag was raised by Staff Sergeant 1st class Dejan Vukojevic and Corporal Blagica Gosic from the team of the Training Command.

In the next 5 days, teams of the Army, General Staff, Air Force and Air Defence, and the Ministry of Defence will compete at sports venues and training grounds.
