There has been a military ceremony at "First Infantry Regiment of Prince Miloš the Great" Barracks in Vranje today to mark the deployment of another contingent of the Serbian Armed Forces with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The contingent is composed of the 4th Army Brigade infantry company, staff officers and national support element. In the next six months, they will be performing responsible tasks as part of peacekeeping forces, preserving peace in UNIFIL’s Sector East.

The ceremony has been attended by MOD State Secretary Nemanja Starović, Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lieutenant General Petar Cvetković, representatives of SAF units, local government bodies and Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as relatives and friends of the soldiers and officers to be deployed on peacekeeping operation.

State Secretary Starović handed the flag of the Republic of Serbia to Infantry Company Commander Major Aleksandar Pešić, and wished the SAF members a successful execution of the assigned tasks in the AO, hoping that they would represent the armed forces and the state in an honorable, professional and dignified manner.

The SAF started to participate in UNIFIL in 2010 by deploying five of their staff officers. Later on, there was a notable increase in the number of deployed SAF personnel. Currently, except for the contingent in Sector East, there is a SAF force protection platoon deployed in Sector West, Lebanon.
